This cake was for a Wigan Athletic football fan…if you couldn’t have guessed.
Fondant icing over a vanilla cake, the Wigan Athletic logo was hand painted. The cake turned out so large I had to make a special board for it. Covered MDF board with brown paper, then clear cellophane.
It was for a a young boy’s birthday, but would do for any adult as well I think.
For my dad’s 70th birthday I made this fishing cake – dad loves fishing and has been known to catch all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures. Th’ Bote is the name of the boat he and his brothers own and go out on regularly.
The cake itself was 3 layer chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling. The outer icing and decorations are all fondant and gumpaste.
Once I’d almost completed the decorating I remember one of the guests has a nut allergy so decided to make some vanilla cupcakes as the chocolate used ‘may contain traces of nuts’. I made up a few more creature to top them, which was a great way to use up the left over fondant.
