October 21, 2009

Saw a photo of one of these and couldn’t resist trying it.

It’s very red (inside), very tall, and most importantly very yummy!

Ballerinas, flowers and butterflies

October 15, 2009

That was the order for this cake. For a six year old girl.

Ballerinas, flowers and butterflies

Ballerinas, flowers and butterflies

Madeira (lemon) cake with fondant base icing. Flowers made from fondant, pressed and tooled. The stems and centres are royal icing, with a background of pink lustre spray. The ballerinas are royal icing, as is the lettering. The butterflies are fondant, sprayed with pink lustre spray finish.

Strawberry shortcake

Strawberry shortcake

Fondant icing, with royal icing piping for wording and strawberry shortcake. Around the base of the cake are tangy fruit sweets… the kids love these.

Charlie and Lola

Charlie and Lola

Fondant icing base with Charlie and Lola piped in royal icing.  The consistency was a bit thick so not such a smooth finish.  The butterflies were made from coloured fondant.  Lettering was done with a food colouring pen… not so successful.  Again tangy fruits around the base.
